Chief Executive Officer
Credentials: MBA from INSEAD, B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Universitas Indonesia.
Bio: Andi is the visionary leader behind Phinisi Factory. After a decade in international finance, he returned to Indonesia in 2015, driven by a desire to apply modern business principles to a cherished national heritage. As part of the Juara Holding Group, Andi oversees strategic direction, investor relations, and ensures every project, often exceeding a 24-month build timeline, aligns with the highest international standards of quality and governance. His family hails from Makassar, giving him a deep personal connection to the maritime history of South Sulawesi.
Daeng Hakim
Head Shipwright (Panrita Lopi)
Credentials: Master Shipwright with over 45 years of practice in Tana Beru, having laid the keels for more than 30 vessels. Recognized by the local Konjo community as a Panrita Lopi (Master Builder) since 1998.
Bio: Daeng Hakim is the heart and soul of our shipyard. He is a fifth-generation boat builder who learned the craft at his father’s side. He leads the traditional aspects of construction, from selecting 20-meter Ulin (Ironwood) logs for the keel to performing the sacred keel-laying ceremonies. Daeng Hakim does not work from blueprints; he builds from memory and a profound understanding of the sea passed down since the 19th century. His wisdom ensures that every vessel carries the authentic spirit of the Phinisi.
Dr. Ir. Rina Lestari, M.Sc.
Chief Naval Architect & Engineer
Credentials: Ph.D. in Naval Architecture from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft, 2008), M.Sc. from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya. One of Indonesia’s leading naval architects, she specializes in modernizing traditional vessel designs, improving fuel efficiency by up to 15%. She leads the engineering team, responsible for creating technical blueprints, conducting hydrodynamic analysis (CFD), and ensuring every yacht meets BKI and SOLAS safety standards. Dr. Rina’s work is critical in integrating modern 550hp propulsion and navigation systems into the classic Phinisi hull form.

The ancestral art of Phinisi building
Deep within the sun-drenched shipyards of Sulawesi, where the air hums with the symphony of craftsmanship, the Phinisi Factory brings ancient maritime traditions to life. Our process begins not with blueprints alone, but with the profound knowledge passed down through generations of Konjo and Bugis master shipwrights. These artisans, whose ancestors navigated the vast Indonesian archipelago for centuries, possess an innate understanding of the sea and the timber that will tame it. We meticulously select sustainable Indonesian hardwoods, primarily Ulin (ironwood) and Teak, known for their exceptional durability and beauty, ensuring each plank contributes to a legacy that can endure for over 100 years.
While honoring these time-honored techniques, which include hand-carving and intuitive shaping, the Phinisi Factory seamlessly integrates modern naval architecture. This fusion ensures that while the spirit of the traditional Phinisi remains, each vessel meets the highest international standards for safety, stability, and performance. The keel-laying ceremony, a tradition dating back centuries, marks the true beginning of each build, a sacred moment where the vessel’s soul is believed to be instilled. This commitment to heritage, combined with contemporary precision, is what makes every Phinisi a masterpiece of engineering and art, recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage since 2017.
Engineering excellence meets artistic vision
Beyond the time-honored techniques, each luxury Phinisi emerging from our factory is a marvel of contemporary engineering and exquisite design. Our team of certified marine engineers and naval architects work in tandem with the master shipwrights, ensuring that every curve and joint contributes to both aesthetic grace and peak performance. We integrate state-of-the-art navigation systems, often costing upwards of $150,000, along with advanced propulsion, communication, and safety equipment. Rigorous testing and sea trials, typically exceeding 2,000 hours, guarantee that each vessel is not just beautiful, but also robust, reliable, and ready to navigate the most remote corners of the world’s largest archipelago.
The interior of a Phinisi Factory yacht is where artistic vision truly blossoms into bespoke luxury. Collaborating closely with our clients, our designers transform each space into a private floating sanctuary, reflecting individual tastes while harmonizing with the vessel’s traditional soul. From gourmet galleys fitted with professional-grade appliances to opulent master suites, dedicated spa areas, and fully equipped dive centers, every detail is meticulously crafted. We blend rich Indonesian textiles and artisanal furnishings with modern comforts, creating an ambiance that is both authentically local and unequivocally five-star, providing an unparalleled experience in luxury tourism across Indonesia.
